It’s 2010!
I know, a few days late right? But better late than never they say… So “Happy New Year!”
Now that we’ve gotten the festivities out the way, let’s get down to business.
What’s your game plan for 2010?
No, not the usual I want to make more money. But the detailed plan, the detailed mission, the detailed strategies of how you plan on getting there.
“What’s the plan?”
That’s a question that’s been racking my brain these few days of 2010 and a question I have posed to my fellow nightclub promoters as well. The problem is everyone, myself included have given the same old “make more money” answer.
So I figured I’d share some tips that I’ve put together for myself and hopefully they will help you out on your mission to “make more money” with your events.
Makes no sense you set out to make more money in 2010 and not revisit the success and failures of your 2009.
With your successes, you need to pinpoint what worked for you and maybe even dig deeper into why it worked. Maybe it was the perfect venue, a holiday weekend, the right collaborators, the perfect DJ or just fantastic marketing.
Whatever brought you that success, you should write down all the elements that are duplicable and keep them in mind for the events you plan on creating this year.
Same thing with your failures, which should provide the greatest insight anyway. What didn’t work and why?
Did you really think spending $10k for Amber Rose to host your event in a venue that only held 250 was smart?
Was it the last minute planning and execution that got up to you in the end?
Or were you simply outmatched, outhustled and outspent by your competitors?
Whatever the reasons for your failure in 2009, you need to put it all down on paper and find ways not to make those same mistakes in 2010.
Doing the same things over and over again, expecting a different result is well… crazy as they say.
Sounds elementary right? So why don’t many club promoters and event marketers do it?
Not just hairy fairy goals either, but concrete goals like,
“We will make $250,000 in 2010.”
“We will increase our email list by 15,000 contacts.”
“We will market 7 big holiday events in 2010.”
Whatever your goals are they need to be concrete, they need to be attainable and they need to be goals that allow you to grow beyond your previous year.
And once you set those goals, you have to take the next step, which is…
So now you’ve revisited your successes and failure and now have set specific goals. No what?
I know all of this doesn’t sound glamorous, but you need to do it to end up living the life you lay in bed dreaming about at night.
So yes set goals and now you have to break those goals into tasks for each goal and then steps to complete each task.
So say your goal is to Get 350 more Patrons to Your Event
The tasks to complete that goal may be:
- Advertise on more local email lists
- Find more people with relationships to bring friends to events
- Hypnotize the world through twitter
Ok so we’re not going to break down each task to get you towards this goal, but let’s focus on just one task.
Task 1 – Advertising on More local email lists
If you take the time to break down all your goals and tasks like this, as tedious as it may sound, you’ll be miles ahead of the competitors in your marketplace.
Go to a quiet place, bring a pen and a pad and get going right now. Do this before you trying to do a million and one things for the new year.
Now those 3 steps are a great way to get you started on a successful journey to a profitable and successful 2010.
Review your successes and failures for 2009 so you know what to look out for in planning your events. Set concrete goals for the year so you and your team know what they’re working towards. Then after you set those goals, break them down into specific tasks and steps to make achieving them a success.
A great resource to get you going is a book called E Myth by Michael Gerber, it will be a great way and blueprint to help you figure out how to set goals and systemize your business for success in 2010. So pick up a copy now.
I personally would get the book on tape so you could listen to it while you’re driving around all day.
Anyway, I hope you have a successful and prosperous 2010 for your life and your events.
