These few weeks have been challenging for me and my event marketing endeavors. 1st my hard drive with years of data and thousands in work, ended up crashing.
Then my website host of 5 years server crashed and we lost everything, including our backup. Everything including pictures, contacts and vital information was lost. Yes, definitely sucked to be me for a second, especially with an event around the corner.
I could have griped, thrown my hands up and complained all day ‘til I became blue in the face, but instead I chose to use it as an opportunity to excel.
1st I told all my members exactly what happened by emailing them, texting them and calling them. I showed evidence by creating an image from my site host so people knew I wasn’t just making up a story.
Then I simply asked them for their help in getting the word out to the rest of their friends.
What happened?
It was like an army was let loose and recruited everyone they knew to come and support the upcoming event. Through emails, phone calls, MySpace etc, everyone was on fire to simply help.
Many factors of course contributed to this excitement, but it’s important to point out that because we’ve always focused on helping our members, providing them with the best vibe and looking out for the best interest, they were more than happy to come to our rescue.
No matter who you think you are as a promoter or what level you may be on, it’s always important to remain humble. People are naturally inclined to help whenever they can, even more if it’s someone they like and consider their friend.
Whatever setbacks you may encounter, always take charge of the situation and recognize what’s taking place. Then turn to the members that you often give to and ask them for help.
Setbacks are an opportunity for you to grow and evolve as a person and as a promoter. You’d be surprised what miracles will take place.
