Stop!
Before you design your next flyer, here’s something to consider.
Leave the half naked or in many cases virtually naked girls off the flyer.
What?!
Yes you read right, forget about the half naked girl and do something more imaginative with you hard earned monetary investment.
Don’t worry I’ve made this mistake before myself, but once I started doing my research, surveying my audience and reading more marketing material I realised that I may have been going about things all wrong.
Here’s why…
1. It turns off your #1 Target, Women. (Nobody likes a party with a bunch of guys anyway)
2. It lacks imagination. (Makes your event look dull and boring)
3. Your don’t stand out from your competition. (Oh just another random event)
Half Naked Girls, Turn Off Paying Girls
You’d be surprised what women think when they actually see a flyer with a half naked girl on it. Yes it’s the norm it seems for promoters and club owners to place hot, steaming (often unpaid) models on their flyers, but because it’s the norm doesn’t make it right.
As I mentioned before when surveying the women in my audience on what flyers meant to them, it came down to the same general consensus. Naked girls on flyers either turned them off from the event or it didn’t make the even interesting to them at all.
It made them feel that that’s what was expected of them if they went to that event. It made them feel like they had to strip down to their bras and panties in order for the event to be a good time. I mean isn’t that what the flyer represents?
The women do know that dancing, a little sweating and flirting, mixed with drinking will be involved in a great night out. Possibly even stripping down to their bras and panties if they (or a guy) gets lucky. BUT… they don’t want it blatantly thrown in their face from the flyer.
Basically, you don’t want to turn off your main target demographic for your event, because women are the ones who tend to spread the word on your event, they tend to travel in packs, attract the fellas to the event and bottom lime bring more money into your register.
Don’t piss them off!
Half Naked Girls Are Un-original Anyway
So you need to be more imaginative than that. Applying some creativity shows your target market that you’ve put some effort into the promotion of your event, hence they expect that same sort of effort in the presentation and experience.
That’s the sort of impression you’d like to give, because it will show they are getting value for their money. Especially in a time like now where money for a lot of people are scarce. You know, recession this, recession that.
How can you be original with a flyer you ask? You can make it die cut, you can print a bigger size and more importantly in terms of design you could have imagery that applies to the theme of your event.
I’ve actually seen nightclub promoters to special photoshoots just to capture the essence of the theme they were promoting. (Side note: this also helped the models buy into the event because they were a part of the concept. Which means them spreading the word about the event.)
Everyone’s Doing The Half Naked Girl Thing, So Be Different
If you go out to your local stores, go to your local event site or if you’re out at night partying and come out to your car, you’ll notice that the majority of your competition will have the half naked girl on their flyer or at minimum, the expensive car and martini glass.
Differentiating yourself, being creative and coming up with something imaginative will help you to stand out from the competition. Again this is normally the first encounter with your brand and the marketing of your event, so you want something visually arresting, to cause them to stop what they’re doing and pay attention to your message.
If your flyer and marketing looks just like anyone elses, your potential patron could basically put all the flyers on a table, close their eyes and pick blindly from the stack because none of the events seem different.
Even if you believe you’re offering a different experience when they get to your event, there’s no way for them to know that if your flyer and marketing looks like another “Me Too” event.
So What Should I Put on My Flyer?
No one is saying not to put people on your flyer, but make sure it’s appeals to your target audience in a way that will entice them to your event. Remember that your flyer and promotional material are often the 1st impression your audience gets of your party, so make it a meaningful impression.
Make them be intrigued by the visual and want to come to the event, better yet, make them want to invite other friends to come along with them because it looks like something worthwhile.
No matter how pretty or fancy you make your marketing material, please also keep in mind that the content and information, is what should be most important at the end of the day.
Use the graphics to grab their attention, but be impactful and let them know the important details of the event. The who, what, where when and why!
Then you can keep the half naked pictures for your own viewing, in the privacy of your own home or office. LOL
