When it comes to event and nightclub marketing I’ve seen lots of promoters make a very vital mistake, but don’t feel bad because I myself made this mistake when I very first started out.
What’s the mistake you ask?
Well it was putting profits and making money the first priority when marketing the parties above the interests of the people and members that the party was created for. I know you’re probably thinking what’s the big deal, we’re in business to make money right?
This is true, but if your main focus is in the money and not the people, you’ll find yourself in a place where you’re continually scrambling to get new faces in your parties because you did not build a fan base that loves you for looking after them and their best interests. And besides, if you really want to make the most money possible and really line your pockets, if that’s what you’re in it for, pampering your guests and their friends is the best way to go.
I know over the years I’ve gotten flack from some fellow promoters because I “baby” my core audience too much, but it’s because of this core audience and our catering to them that has allowed our continued success.
So how do we put people first?
You can start by asking them what do they really like about your events. Ask them how you can better serve them, which venues they like, how do they like being marketed to, which DJs they prefer, pretty much go out and survey your core audience. Take a break from blasting them promotional messages and send a quick survey to your list with some of these questions and see what response you get.
Then take it further than that and walk around your events asking people what they like and what they don’t like. You’d be surprised at some of the responses you will get and even more surprised when you find out that a majority of your audience feels the same way.
Once you have a good finger on the pulse of your core audience then you can please them over and over again, it’s basically like making love to your audience so they can love you back by spending money with you. (Money and sex is always in there somehow huh?)
Think of it as you going to your favorite restaurant, the servers know your name, your favorite meal, how you like your drink mixed and calls you by your first name. Even better when you bring a guest, they seem to be impressed that you get treated like royalty and you feel important because you’ve impressed your friend.
It’s the same with your members and patrons, they want to feel like royalty, loved, appreciated and catered to.
Do this one thing and you’ll create raving fans, who will support you and your events all the time because you go the extra mile for them. They will invite more people than you can reach, they will send out emails for your events, text the world and tell everyone you’re the best.
You putting people first and profits second will translate into way more money and support than you can handle at the end of the day.
Plus it will make for a worthwhile experience for you, your events and your raving fans.
